WHO ARE WE
JAI JAGAT 2020 HAS RENAMED ITSELF TO JAI JAGAT UK
Following a year of activism supporting the Jai Jagat global walk to Geneva during 2019 – 2020 Jai Jagat UK has renamed and re-focused its energy towards the use of the arts and participatory arts as a channel to support activism and Climate Justice.
We were supposed to join the walkers from Lyon to Geneva in September but owing to Covid restriction we were not able to accompany them. A final group of 50 people walked from Lyon to Geneva as one of only were 3 walks that made it to Geneva in September 2020.
The Jai Jagat UK group did manage a day walk from Birmingham City Centre to Tyseley to highlight the current campaign about rethink Birmingham City Council’s current approach to waste management and incineration.
REFUSE, RETHINK, RECYCLE
Our campaign Refuse, Rethink, Recycle gained over 700 petitions, with support from other partner organisations Birmingham Friends of the Earth, CAN West midlands, Peace Hub, Footsteps and Birmingham School Strikers 4 Climate. Our efforts provided a public debate supported by all parties in December 2020.
FOR 2021 MOVING FORWARD WE HAVE REFOCUSED OUR ACTIVITIES TO:
Support and work with artists and young people to engage in participatory art, imaginative activities around Climate Justice and organise and mobilise campaigns surrounding COP 26
To advocate and utilise peaceful and non-violent methods of communication, artistic activities and action to build a movement to advocate for issues relating to Climate Justice as outlined in the Jai Jagat Charter and Manifesto
To collaborate with local, national and international projects around the themes of Climate Justice to build participation on nature-based solutions, creative activities that engage with health and wellbeing to encourage participants to engage with nature and learn new skills
